Flavor & Winemaking: Blackberry, fig, plum jam, peppery spice and a smoked meat note support a bevy of cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, and clove pie-like-spice. The fruit for this wine was harvested late to maximize ripe and dark fruit flavors, then aged in French oak barrels with a good dose of whiskey-charred American oak as well as maple, hickory, mesquite & Brazilian Amburana woods.

  • Sensory Notes

Blackberry, fig, plum jam, peppery spice and a smoked meat note on the finish.

  • Winemaker Notes

Our “Foothills blend” of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Barbera (25%) and Zinfandel (25%) fermented and aged on oak, cherry & maple & hickory & whiskey oak for 8-28 months to create complexity of young fruit and aged complexity. The Cabernet brings the backbone and richness and spice, while the Barbera brings a smooth fruity quality and some acidity, and lastly the Zinfandel contributes a blackberry-jam, blackberry-pie ripe character. Together, they represent the best that the foothills have to offer, the grapes we are most famous for as a region (and as a winery).

  • Vineyard Notes

    Vineyard: Various, Sierra Foothills, Ca.

    Soil: Volcanic Clay Loam

Pepperoni pizza. Whole grain crackers or toast with creamy mild cheeses & jam (berry jams ideal, chili-berry jams are ideal if you have access) or figs. Olives & pickled veggies. Smoked gouda. Pecorino romano: There’s a salty density to this cheese that takes this already smooth wine and makes it even smoother, richer. Aged gouda. PB&J Bites: Matches the jammy, smoothness of this wine.
